RECOGNITION OF COMPANIES IN THE TECHNOLOGY SECTOR

The National Innovation Agency (ANI) is responsible for the certification process of recognizing companies in the technology sector, which have been established for less than six years and that operate within the scope of the technology sector, as defined by a decree [PDF] from the government members responsible for finance and the economy.

The State Budget Law for 2018 added Article 43-C to the Tax Benefits Statute, which provides for an exemption from personal income tax on earnings (referred to in Article 2(3)(b)(7) of the Personal Income Tax Code) earned by employees of companies that are categorised as micro or small companies (according to the criteria set out in the annex to Decree-Law 372/2007).
