ANI BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UNITS

ANI is the entity responsible for monitoring public policies and support instruments for Research and Development (R&D), as well as for promoting and developing R&D support tools that are crucial for modernizing and increasing the competitiveness of the national business fabric.

To achieve this, ANI has 8 specialized business units that provide dedicated support to companies, start-ups, researchers, business associations, and others.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

The International Affairs Unit develops cooperation activities with counterpart entities from countries outside the EU and aims to develop new partnerships and joint projects between Portuguese and foreign entities, promoting the internationalization of companies and the national innovation system.
CLIENT DEVELOPMENT

The Client Development Unit prioritizes placing companies, entrepreneurs, researchers, and organizations as strategic drivers of ANI’s activities, promoting more innovation, more collaboration, and more capacity-building for all these entities.

R&D TAX INCENTIVES AND CERTIFICATION
This Unit is responsible for managing the entire process leading to the certification of Research and Development (R&D) expenses within the scope of SIFIDE – System of Tax Incentives for Business R&D. SIFIDE’s main objectives are to increase the competitiveness of companies by supporting their R&D efforts through the deduction of R&D expenses from corporate income tax (IRC).
NATIONAL STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
This unit’s mission is to implement national strategic initiatives aligned with the mission to catalyze and foster innovation in Portugal, ensuring the coordination, agility, and operational efficiency of all innovation support activities.
INTERFACE MISSION

The Interface Mission Unit aims to ensure the implementation of the core funding program for interface institutions, leveraging their capacity to mediate and facilitate collaboration between academia and businesses. This is done particularly by supporting the dynamization of infrastructures that promote knowledge and technology transfer, such as Technology and Innovation Centers (CTI) and Collaborative Laboratories (CoLAB).

PUBLIC INNOVATION POLICIES
The Public Innovation Policies Unit’s priority is to coordinate and monitor the execution of innovation programs and strategies, as well as to develop initiatives to improve the functioning of the National Innovation System.
EUROPEAN R&I PROGRAMS

The European R&I Programs Unit aims to increase national participation in European R&I programs and platforms, particularly in Pillars II and III of Horizon Europe, the EUREKA program, and the Enterprise Europe Network initiatives.

NATIONAL INCENTIVE SYSTEMS

The National Incentive Systems Unit’s priority is to manage, evaluate, and monitor operations and to build the capacity of the innovation ecosystem for efficient access to R&D support instruments within the scope of the PT2020 and PT2030 community support frameworks.
