Potential Important Project of Common European Interest on Biotechnology

28.Jul.2025

Call for expressions of interest until August 29

Portugal is one of 15 Member States that, together with the European Commission, is assessing the feasibility of a new Important Project of Common European Interest dedicated to Biotechnology (IPCEI Biotech WG).

IPCEIs are strategic European collaboration initiatives that aim to support technologies with a significant impact at European level but which are insufficiently supported by market mechanisms or traditional European Union instruments. However, before moving on to the design phase of these instruments, a preliminary assessment is required to demonstrate the common European interest.

In the specific case of biotechnology, the aim is to strengthen solutions for the green and digital transition, such as bio-based chemicals and materials, alternative proteins, and sustainable ingredients for human and animal food.

ANI, DGAE, and IAPMEI invite companies, research centers, and other national entities active in these areas to express their interest by August 29 by filling out an online form. The contributions collected will serve as the basis for preparing the European proposal for the future IPCEI Biotech.

The form and supporting documents are available here.
