National participation in the 9th edition of iCapital promoted by ANI
The European Commission has announced the winners of the European Capital of Innovation (iCapital) 2023 Awards, highlighting the cities of Lisbon, as the capital of innovation, and Linköping, in Sweden, as an innovative city on the rise.
iCapital recognises cities as inclusive innovation ecosystems, identifying urban ecosystems that connect citizens, the public sector, academia and businesses in order to create the conditions to improve citizens’ well-being and promote disruptive solutions.
National participation in the 9th edition of the European Capital of Innovation Awards (iCapital) was promoted by ANI. The Unicorn Factory project was the basis for Lisbon’s candidature.
n just two years, Unicorn Factory Lisboa has attracted 54 new technology centres to Lisbon from 23 countries, announced 10,000 jobs, launched 13 incubation and acceleration programmes, tripled the number of start-ups incubated and positioned the city in industries such as digital health, “Web 3” technologies or Artificial Intelligence.
The awards were presented by Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, in Marseille (France), the winning city of iCapital 2022.
