Winners to be announced on 27 November
Lisbon is one of the three finalist cities in the 9th edition of the European Capital of Innovation Awards 2023 (iCapital Awards). The Portuguese capital is competing against the Ukrainian city of Lviv and the Polish city of Warsaw. The final winners will be announced on 27 November at the awards ceremony in Marseille.
This award is supported by the European Innovation Council as part of Horizon Europe, which recognises the role that cities play in shaping the local innovation ecosystem and promoting breakthrough innovations, in line with the objectives of the New European Innovation Agenda.
The winning city in the “European Capital of Innovation” category, in addition to the prestigious accolade, will receive a prize of 1 million euros, while the two runners-up in this category will receive 100,000 euros each. The winner of the “Rising Innovative European City” category will receive 500,000 euros and the two runners-up will receive 50,000 euros each.
All finalists will be invited to join the working group of the European Innovation Council Forum (EIC Prizes Alumni Network) made up of previous iCapital Awards finalists.
iCapital is promoted in Portugal by ANI, as part of the PERIN Network, a support network for national participation in European Commission initiatives that fund and promote research and innovation. Through this initiative, the European Union recognises cities with inclusive innovation ecosystems that connect the public with academia, businesses and the public sector in order to improve society’s well-being.
