Portugal achieves more 5.6 M€ for R&D in new technologies
The results of the EIC Pathfinder Open 2022 competition, which closed in May, were announced and two projects coordinated by Portuguese institutions are among the winners. This is a European funding instrument that supports R&D projects to develop advanced, innovative and disruptive scientific technologies and solutions.
Of the 858 proposals received, 57 projects were funded, 8 of which with the participation of Portuguese institutions. Applicants are mainly from higher education bodies and research institutions, still involving about 25% of innovative companies.
Of the 8 projects approved for Portugal, 2 are coordinated by national institutions, they are:
– 3DSecret, in the area of detection of stochastic patterns in metastases through 3D cell spheroids, led by INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory;
– CAR T-REX, in the area of CAR T cell connections to prevent exhaustion in the tumor microenvironment, led by Stemmatters, Biotechnology and Regenerative Medicine SA;
In total, the Portuguese institutions submitted 132 proposals, and the 11 institutions involved in the 8 approved projects, raised about 5.6 million euros (reaching a 6% proposal success rate – remaining at the level of the European average).
