PORTUGUESE PROJECTS HONOURED AT THE 2024 NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS AWARDS

Two Portuguese projects were recognised at the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Awards 2024 ceremony, held on 12 April in Brussels as part of this year’s NEB Festival.

Hydroscape Lisbon”Recognition: Honorable Mention in the New European Bauhaus Rising Stars strand, Under the category “Reconnecting with Nature”. Prize: €10,000.
This project envisions an urban park and water treatment centre celebrating Lisbon’s urban water resources. It aims to create a space that fosters and promotes a deeper connection with water.

Urban MYCOskinRecognition: Winner in the New European Bauhaus Rising Stars strand, Under the category “Need for a long-term life-cycle-based industrial ecosystem”. Prize: €15,000.
Description: Focused on Lisbon’s Praça do Martim Moniz. This project integrates mycelium—a natural biomaterial derived from fungi—into the design and transformation of urban spaces, bridging the built environment with sustainable and innovative materials.

A total of 20 awards were given out and this is the fourth year in a row that Portugal has had at least one winning project. You can see all the winners here and (re)watch the awards ceremony here.

The NEB Awards aim to recognise inspiring transformations of physical spaces, daily experiences, and lifestyles, embracing the core values of the NEB: aesthetics, sustainability, and inclusivity.
