The Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) provides grants to co-finance research and innovation projects in the coal and steel sectors. Each year, the fund supports research projects conducted by universities, research centers, and companies.
The RFCS is a EU funding program dedicated to research in coal and steel industries. It operates under a special legal framework, independent of the Multiannual Financial Framework. Is funded through the revenue generated from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) assets in liquidation. These funds are exclusively allocated to research in coal and steel sectors, as per Protocol (37) of the Treaty.
