ANI manages the nationwide expansion network of ZLTs, driving experimentation and validation of new technologies
The government has approved the regulation of two new Technology Free Zones (ZLT) in Aveiro and Viana do Castelo, reinforcing the national network managed by ANI. These ZLTs allow innovative technologies to be experimented with in a real but controlled environment, benefiting from a more flexible legal framework that facilitates research, testing and validation of new technological solutions.
The University of Aveiro will be responsible for the LTA dedicated to autonomous mobility, connectivity and artificial intelligence, leveraging synergies with research centers in the region. In Viana do Castelo, the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) will lead the TLZ focused on offshore renewable energy, creating conditions for the development of innovative solutions in the sector.
With this initiative, the government is reinforcing its commitment to innovation and the dual digital and energy transition, consolidating Portugal as a center of excellence for research and technological experimentation.
