European Commission launches public consultation on the “Chips Act”

12.Sep.2025

Until November 28

The European Commission (EC) has launched a public consultation and call for expressions of interest for the evaluation of the Integrated Circuits Regulation, known as the “Chips Act.”

The initiative invites entities and professionals in the sector to share their contributions on the functioning of the regulation and to submit proposals for future amendments.

This public consultation aims to ensure that the Chips Act keeps pace with changes in the market, technology, and geopolitics. The evaluation of the regulation, scheduled for September 2026, has been brought forward in the context of the AI Continent Action Plan, and a proposal for revision is expected to be presented in the second quarter of 2026.

The European Commission has structured the initiative into two strands for gathering contributions, which can be submitted via this link:

  1. Call for Evidence: This component seeks to define the scope of the Chips Act review. Participants can share their perspectives on the challenges to be addressed, the objectives to be achieved, and the options under consideration.
  2. Public Consultation: through a questionnaire, this consultation gathers opinions on the current Chips Act regulation, possible improvements, and other areas for action. The questionnaire contains sections aimed at different groups of industry stakeholders to gather information.

These initiatives are aimed at companies, research institutions, associations, and authorities, which can access the information and submit their contributions via the “Have Your Say” portal.

The participation of stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem is key to ensuring that the revision of the Chips Act reflects Europe’s needs in the semiconductor sector.
