According to the accounts of the National Innovation Agency (ANI), national companies with disruptive technologies have already managed to capture close to 27 million euros from the European Innovation Council (ERC). This is the instrument launched in 2021 to support the most revolutionary technologies under the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.

“Portugal has been having an extremely positive performance in Horizonte Europa and this balance in access to funding through the European Innovation Council confirms it,” said ANI President António Grilo in a statement released on Thursday.

“It is worth highlighting the ability that R&D entities ([investigação e desenvolvimento]) in Portugal and companies have been demonstrating to participate and even coordinate truly deep tech projects ([de tecnologia com base científica]) worldwide,” adds António Grilo, who assumed the presidency of the ANI a few weeks ago, following the resignation of Joana Mendonça.
