EIT ANNOUNCES TIMELINE FOR FUTURE KIC IN WATER, MARITIME, AND MARINE SECTORS

28.Jun.2024

As part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s (EIT) 2021-2027 Strategic Innovation Agenda, a call for a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) in the Water, Maritime, and Marine Sectors will be launched in 2025.

Water plays a significant role in the Earth’s climate and biodiversity. It is also critical for health, well-being and prosperity, food production, renewable energy, and a key driver of the global economy, including trade and transportation. In the context of climate change, managing natural resources in freshwater and marine ecosystems is also of paramount importance. This KIC will focus on the following areas:

  • Water scarcity, droughts, and floods
  • Degradation of marine and freshwater ecosystems
  • The circular and sustainable blue economy

This new KIC aims to promote initiatives in education, skill development, innovation projects, as well as the development, implementation, and commercialization of new technologies, products, and services.

To this end, the EIT announced today, June 27, the timeline for implementing this new KIC, which will commence in 2026.
