The European Commission has been showcasing success stories from the Digital Europe Program (DIGITAL), an EU initiative aimed at integrating digital technology into businesses, public services, and daily life.
The program focuses on six major cross-cutting areas: high-performance computing, AI, cybersecurity, digital skills, widespread digital adoption, and semiconductors. It drives digital technologies, collaborates with European entities to create practical solutions, and delivers results that enhance Europe’s digital independence and competitiveness.
As part of ANI’s work in representing Portugal in the Digital Europe Program, we have been highlighting projects involving national organizations, focused on fostering R&D for new digital solutions.
The CyberSecPro project, funded by the Digital Europe Program (DIGITAL), is working on developing cybersecurity skills through an innovative training program for IT specialists. Bringing together 15 higher education institutions and 13 security companies, the project aims to align market needs with the practical skills required to safeguard the digital environment.
Launched in December 2022, it has already identified cybersecurity skill gaps in Europe and initiated training activities. With funding of €6.7 million, the project is developing training models that address market demands, including at least 48 professional training modules for various stakeholders. A total of 28 beneficiaries are expected by the end of the project, scheduled for completion in November 2025.
National Participation
This project involves four national organizations, which secured approximately €0.9 million in funding. These are UNINOVA – Institute for the Development of New Technologies, PDM E FC – Project Development Maintenance Training and Consulting, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and COFAC – Cooperative for Training and Cultural Animation.
Results and Impact
CyberSecPro is transforming cybersecurity education, preparing a skilled workforce to tackle emerging challenges. The project not only safeguards personal data and public services but also strengthens democratic processes. “CyberSecPro takes cybersecurity training and education in Europe to a new level,” states Prof. Dr. Thorsten Kliewe, the project’s innovation manager.
