A private non-profit association. Located on the Azurém Campus of the University of Minho in Guimarães. It has its own facilities with 2,000 square meters of laboratory space. In total, it has 86 constituent members, founders, and members from various typologies and sectors of activity, including companies in the foundry industry, wastewater management services, waste management, metalworking industry, ceramics industry, paper industry, construction industry, technological centers, municipal entities, and non-profit public institutions.

In 2022, CVR was recognized as a Technology and Innovation Center through Dispatch No. 9799-A/2022, published in the Official Gazette. CVR operates in four main areas: Analytical Services, Consulting, Research and Technological Development, and Organization of Scientific Events. According to Dispatch No. 9181/2017, CVR was declared to be of public utility.
