Call for Proposals: Demonstration Pilot Projects to Promote Energy Transition in the Fisheries Sector

8.Mar.2024

The European Commission has recently launched a call for proposals for a demonstration pilot project to support the energy transition in the fisheries sector. Applications are open until June 11, 2024.

Funded under the European Union’s Pilot Project Fund, with a budget of €2.2 million, this call aims to finance a pilot project involving a maritime fishing vessel. The selected vessel will be retrofitted with alternative propulsion technologies and other solutions to improve energy performance, reduce emissions, and decrease underwater noise. The vessel will serve as a model to disseminate results to fishermen, investors, coastal communities, and young people.

The CINEA is hosting an online Info Day on March 18, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM CET.
Speakers from CINEA and the DG MARE will present the application process and provide tips for drafting a successful proposal.

This initiative is part of a set of actions identified in the “Communication on the Energy Transition of the EU Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector” published by the European Commission in February 2023. It aims to test innovations in fishing vessels to diversify away from fossil fuels and achieve better energy performance.

Submission of proposals until June 11
