On March 5, 2024, the 9th edition of the European Capital of Innovation Awards (iCapital) opened for applications.
The iCapital Awards annually recognize cities with inclusive innovation ecosystems, identifying urban environments that connect citizens, public sectors, academia, and businesses to achieve tangible outcomes that improve citizens’ well-being and foster disruptive innovations.
In addition to the main category, European Capital of Innovation, which is aimed at cities with more than 250,000 inhabitants, there is also the “Rising Innovative City” category, to reward cities with more than 50,000 and less than 250,000 inhabitants.
The top three cities in each category will receive monetary awards, along with significant visibility and recognition associated with these prestigious titles.
The award is organized by the European Innovation Council (EIC) and supported in Portugal by the National Innovation Agency (ANI) under the PERIN network. Portugal benefits from a support network to encourage national participation in European Commission-funded research and innovation initiatives.
