The 50 finalists of the 4th edition of the NEB Awards, promoted by the New European Bauhaus (NEB), have been announced, with the aim of recognising and celebrating initiatives that link the beautiful, the sustainable and the inclusive. Among these finalists are three national projects A total of 20 prizes will be awarded, 18 of which will be selected by a jury and 2 by public vote, one for each of the strands in the competition:
- A: Champions, for existing and completed projects aligned with the values and principles of the New European Bauhaus;
- B: New European Bauhaus Rising Stars, for ideas and concepts submitted by young people up to the age of 30.
Voting is open to the public until 27 March. Each individual can only vote once and can select up to 6 projects, and up to 3 for each strand. There are four categories in the competition and you can select projects from the same category.
The national finalists were recognised in strands A and B and the winners could receive prize money of 30,000 euros and 15,000 euros respectively.
You can take part in this process and vote for your favourite projects. If you wish, you can support the three Portuguese projects by casting your vote.
In the first strand, Champions, a national finalist stands out in the category “Reconquering a sense of belonging”:
- the project “The wool cycle in Barroso”, aimed at recovering practices and knowledge linked to artisanal wool production processes, valorising local communities and promoting the identity of the Curry territory in Montalegre.
In the second strand, Rising Stars, two national finalists stand out in the category “Restoring a relationship with nature”:
- the “Hydroscape Lisbon” project, which aims to design an urban park and a water treatment centre to celebrate Lisbon’s urban water resources through a space that establishes and promotes a connection with water.
In the category of “Need for an industrial ecosystem based on the life cycle and the long term”:
- the “Urban MYCOskin” project, which aims to use mycelium and integrate it into the design and transformation of urban spaces, linking the built environment to a biomaterial obtained from natural organisms (mushrooms), with a focus on Martim Moniz Square in Lisbon.

The winners will be announced on 9 April at the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels.
