The European Commission’s proposal is to double the programme’s budget to 175 billion euros<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

<\/p>\n\n

On 16 July, the European Commission presented the proposal for the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034, with an overall budget of 2 trillion euros. Among the priorities is the continuation of Horizon Europe, under the same name, as the European Union’s main research and innovation funding programme. <\/p>\n\n

According to the Commission, Horizon Europe (2028-2034) aims to boost Europe’s productivity and competitiveness, while promoting scientific research and the development of innovative solutions in critical areas such as the green and digital transition, health, mobility, security and industrial competitiveness. The European Commission’s proposal doubles Horizon Europe’s budget for the next MFF with a planned envelope of 175 billion euros.On 16 July, the European Commission presented the proposal for the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034, with an overall budget of 2 trillion euros. Among the priorities is the continuation of Horizon Europe, under the same name, as the European Union’s main research and innovation funding programme. <\/p>\n\n

The proposal reinforces the role of Horizon Europe in terms of the European Union’s leading position in science and technology, through strategic investments in excellent science, with support for the European Research Council, Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie fellowships, research infrastructures and disruptive innovation, with an emphasis on the European Innovation Council.<\/p>\n\n

The programme also aims to respond to global challenges such as climate change, energy, food and health, while at the same time promoting widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area.<\/p>\n\n

With these measures, the new Horizon Europe will contribute to creating highly qualified jobs, increasing economic returns and strengthening the European Union’s strategic autonomy.<\/p>\n\n

Negotiations will soon begin between the European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament. It is essential to have a strong and cohesive voice in order to position Portugal’s interests. As always, ANI and its NCPs are available to receive suggestions and comments from the national R&I community in their area of intervention. <\/p>\n\n
