The European Commission (EC) published a communication on February 27 about the Advanced Materials for Industrial Leadership<\/em> program. <\/p>\n\n

The communication aims to establish a dynamic, safe, and inclusive ecosystem for advanced materials in Europe. This ecosystem seeks to ensure leadership in research, accelerate market introduction of innovations, and guarantee sustainability alongside the protection of human health and the environment. To achieve these goals, the EC calls for mobilizing additional EU, national, regional, and private investments through a coordinated approach. <\/p>\n\n

The communication proposes actions based on 5 pillars:<\/p>\n\n

    \n
  1. IEuropean Research and Innovation in Advanced Materials: A platform supporting the twin transition, the EU\u2019s resilience, and strategic autonomy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Accelerating the Transition from Lab to Market: Includes the development of a \u201cmaterials commons<\/em>\u201d, a European digital infrastructure for research and innovation in advanced materials. This initiative will significantly accelerate the design, development, and testing of new materials in a controlled environment, leveraging AI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Boosting Capital Investment and Access to Funding: The EU will establish a new partnership with industry under Horizon Europe, targeting \u20ac500 million in investments for 2025\u20132027, with at least \u20ac250 million coming from private sources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Promoting the Production and Use of Advanced Materials: A European Advanced Materials Academy, to be developed with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), will ensure that Europe\u2019s workforce is equipped with the necessary skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Creating an Advanced Materials Technology Council: This council will provide strategic guidance and support for the initiative, involving Member States, Horizon Europe-associated countries, and industry stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n
