The National Innovation Agency’s capital is equally subscribed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education through the FCT (the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) (50%), and the Ministry of Economy, through IAPMEI (50%).

Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. Masters in Industrial Engineering and Production Management at the Cranfield Institute of Technology, Production Engineering course at the Research Institute for Production Engineering in Gothenburg/ Sweden.

Was part of Fraunhofer Portugal Research Association, where he held executive management positions. He was Assistant Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto. After completing his MBA, he embarked on an international experience in a referential organization in the field of applied research, technology transfer and entrepreneurship. Later, he has joined SONAECOM, holding positions in several areas of executive committee support. MBA in Business Management by the School of Management of the University of Porto, BA by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.

Alcino Lavrador

Alcino LavradorPortugal Telecom’s Innovation and Systems Administrator.

BA in Electrical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, he is the CEO of PT Innovation since March 2008.

He joined the Telecommunications Research Center, the predecessor entity of PT Innovation in 1985, having held various technical and management functions in development of network protocols and new services.

He was executive administrator of PT Innovation from July 2006 to February 2008, having previously held several management positions within the company in Portugal as well as in the subsidiary in Brazil, where he was Managing Director between 2003 and 2006. He is a member of the Advisory Board of COTEC. He is a part of the Doctoral Council of the University of Aveiro and a member of the governing bodies of several organizations in the area of Information and Communication Technologies.

António Coutinho, coordinator of CNCT - National Council for Science and Technology

António CoutinhoHe graduated in medicine at the University of Lisbon (1970), a PhD in Medical Microbiology and made their aggregation at the Karolinska Institute (1974), before becoming a member of the Basel Institute of Immunology (1975-1979). He was then successively appointed Professor and Director of the Department of Immunology at the Faculty of Umea of Medicine (1979-1984), Professor and Director of the Immunobiology Unit at the Pasteur Institute and Research Director at the National Centre for Scientific Research (1982-1998), and yet been elected “Professeur Ordinaire” at the College of Geneva Medical School (1982) and appointed Professor and Director of the Department of Immunology, Faculty of Medicine at Lund University (1987) and visiting professor at various European, US and Brazilian universities; since 2002 he is Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon.

He directed the Gulbenkian Science Institute of 1998-2012 (which in 1993 had created the first PhD Portugal program), currently a member of its Management Committee. He is the Coordinator of the National Council of Science and Technology, a member of the Trustees of Directors of the Champalimaud Foundation (Portugal) and Antonio Prudente (Brazil), Chairman of the Advisory Board of the “Graduate Program for Development” and the Directorate “Health Marathon”.

António Coutinho trained several dozen doctors in several European universities and has published about 500 scientific papers, becoming one of the most cited immunologists in the world. He is a member of several national and international scientific societies, particularly the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), the Portuguese Academy of Medicine, foreign member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and Honorary Member of the Portuguese Society of Immunology, having served as President of the Society Medical Sciences of Lisbon, the “High Level Group for the European Research Area” and in numerous other scientific and editorial boards in Europe, America, Japan and Singapore; It was awarded several prizes (Fernströmska Priset, Sweden; FEBS Anniversary Prize; Award Gulbenkian de Ciência and Technology, Portugal; Prix Behring-Metchnikoff, France; Lacassagne Prix at the College de France; Prize University of Lisbon) and honors (Commander of the Order of Cruzeiro do Sul, Brazil; Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, France; Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Filomena Egreja

Was Subdirectory-general of the former DGE – General Directorate of the Company (current DGAE), and in this area also Focal point MEI to the Lisbon Strategy and the Technological Plan, Director of Services at DGI – Industry Directorate General and Head of Division, Researcher and Senior Technician in the former INETI- National Institute of Engineering, Technology and Innovation.

Linked forever coordinating analysis teams within Public Programs in Support of Business Innovation, participated in several projects, studies related to innovation management and innovation systems, particularly in the business perspective and public policies, publication and dissemination.

Joaquim Menezes

President of Centimfe – Technological Center for Molds industry, Special Tooling and Plastic and incubator OPEN in Marinha Grande.

Chairman of the Forum ManuFuture Portugal and the European Tooling Platform, Member of the EU-MANUFUTURE High-Level Group and Member of the Advisory Boards of the University of Minho and the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon.

It was awarded by the president with the Commendation of Merit Industrial, Entrepreneur of the Year 2002 by the Rotary Club of Marinha Grande and Career Award 2002 by the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs among others.

Jorge da Silva Gabriel

Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of Nova de Lisboa University, teaching in industrial management, technology and entrepreneurship.

He started his activity as an evaluator of research and development projects in LNETI. He worked as a management consultant, manager and was later Director of Portuguese Computer Company – Management Consulting (CPC-CG) and Director of “Indra Sistemas” (Spain). Was a management consultant in the ISQ (Institute of Welding and Quality) and in recent years Director R & D.

He has held management consultant and independent expert of the Ministry of Industry and later economics. In 2013 he joined the Office of the Secretary of State for Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Innovation.

Master in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Cranfield Institute of TechnologyIn the UK and an MBA from the Institute of Higher Company Studies (IESE /EASA), Spain.

Jorge Fernandes

Jorge FernandesVice President Innovation Program Office DSM based in the Netherlands, and a member of the Direction Board of DSM Innovation Center.

Leads the development of the innovation strategy and management of the portfolio of the organization’s radical innovations.

Coordinates the Program for Excellence in Innovation from DSM, with a view to implementing good innovation management practices and the training and development of innovative DSM community.

He worked 10 years in the food industry in multinationals such as Nestle and Kraft Foods, and service delivery companies such as EGI, Ltda., In the areas of strategy, operations, quality and implementation of global and regional innovation projects.

He built a strong track record in strategy and innovation management, both in the DSM as in FMCG companies, successfully launching several ideas to market in different areas of business, geographies and cultures.

Degree in Microbiology from the School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University, International MBA at IE Business School.

José Carlos Príncipe

JosePrincipeConsidered one of the world leaders in the field of Computational Neuroengineering, he founded and became the director of the Computational Laboratory NeuroEngineering (CNEL) in the University of Florida, Gainesville, It is BellSouth Teacher and more recently Distinguished Professor.

His scientific career has been recognized nationally and internationally through the award of numerous awards and distinctions, among which stand out the Award for Innovation and Creativity of the Portuguese Industrial Association, the “2007 IEEE EMB Society Career Achievement Award”, the “Gabor Award “the INNS,” Neural network Pioneer Award “by the IEEE Computational NeuroEngineering Society and several honorary degrees in Finland, Italy and Brazil. He is also the IEEE Fellow, AEMB, IFEMB. He also has in his history 20 patents (with another 6 submitted for approval) and the authorship of several books, publications and articles.

Although he is living in the United States, he maintains strong relations with Porto and its university, since he coordinates the International Commission of Scientific Advisory INESC Porto.
