ANI (the Portuguese National Innovation Agency), in partnership with Germany’s Fraunhofer Society, organized a meeting to discuss the new research and development agenda and partnerships between business and science, including the development of Collaborative Laboratories in Portugal.
This meeting was jointly promoted by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Mr. Manuel Heitor, and the Minister of Economy, Mr. Manuel Caldeira Cabral – with the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Mr. Carlos Moedas, and several technology and engineering hubs, technology transfer and valorisation centers and Portuguese applied research laboratories.
The initiative is part of the ongoing European debate on the establishment of the European Innovation Council (EIC). According to the Ministries’ joint statement, its perspective is “to reverse the last few years’ reduction trend on public and private investment in R&D and to encourage cooperation between companies and scientific and higher education institutions through autonomous collaborative strategies, in order to develop research agendas and mobilizing programmes in dialogue with the business sector”.
